Organizational Structure of the Israel Police 
 

The head of the Israel Police is the Inspector General, who is appointed by the government, with the recommendation of the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The Inspector General's duties are delineated in section 9 of the Police Ordinance (New Version), 1971.

Section 9 specifies that "the Inspector General shall supervise the Israel Police, its management and operations, and is responsible for the supervision of all the expenses and equipment involved”.

The Vice Inspector General is the Inspector General's senior assistant and his permanent substitute.

The National Headquarters serves as professional staff which assists the Israel Police units.

The National Headquarters of the Israel Police functions by means seven branches and nine units that are not branch affiliated.

The districts, regions and stations are responsible for carrying out police duties within a given geographical area. The Israel Police is divided into six territorial districts.

Within each district are regions and stations subordinate to the district.

The region is a sub unit of the district, which is designed to function as an independent basic police unit that performs most of the police services within its territorial jurisdiction.

The Border Guard functions as a multipurpose police force in security operations, policing and combating terrorism. The Border Guard assists the regular police units in combating crime.
